What Is Natural Kratom?

Natural kratom comes from the leaves of the Mitragyna speciosa tree, which has been used traditionally in Southeast Asia for generations. Today, many Americans choose natural kratom as part of their personal wellness routine.

Adults report using natural kratom for a variety of reasons, including:

• Supporting everyday wellness
• Promoting focus and productivity
• Managing occasional discomfort
• Encouraging relaxation and balance

Like many botanical products, natural kratom should be manufactured responsibly, accurately labeled, and sold only to informed adults.

Natural Kratom Is Not the Same as 7-OH

Traditional kratom leaf products differ significantly from today’s highly concentrated 7-OH products.

Concentrated 7-OH products are often manufactured to contain levels of 7-hydroxymitragynine far beyond what naturally occurs in kratom leaves. These products have become increasingly available in gas stations, smoke shops, and online marketplaces, raising important questions about potency, marketing practices, and consumer safety.

Public policy should recognize these differences rather than treating every product as though it presents the same level of risk.

Parents deserve confidence that products marketed to adults are manufactured responsibly, labeled honestly, and kept out of the hands of children. At the same time, adults who responsibly choose natural botanical products should not lose access because fundamentally different products are being treated the same.
