1. What inspired you to run for public office, and what positive changes do you hope to bring to your district/state if elected?

In my post-2022 election remarks, I addressed this: "After watching the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan in the summer of 2021, I made the decision to run for Congress to provide much-needed leadership and affect change. It was on Veterans Day that I officially filed to run for office. Over the last year, we overcame the challenges of three congressional maps, a seven-way primary and getting established in a new district.
I was humbled and honored to emerge victorious in the May primary and set out to win back District 6 for the Republican party. We met and conquered most of these challenges, but some proved insurmountable. While we won three of our four counties and Election Day, we fell short of winning due to early and absentee voting.
Throughout the campaign I drew from my military experience and those I was honored to serve with. On this Veterans Day especially, I am reflecting on the words of the Ranger Creed – in particular, the fifth stanza: Surrender is not a Ranger word. Victory in 2024.
Thank you to my family, friends and voters for your unwavering support."

Changes I hope to bring once elected: 1. Government Accountability (I am a former Inspector General for Special Forces, and frankly, I am fed up with government corruption and weaponization), 2. Economic growth through restored energy independence and common sense policy, 3. Finally fix our immigration system and ending the chaos at the border, 4. Parental rights and choice in education, 5. Restoration of equal protection under the law and support of law enforcement and first responders.

2. Can you share the three most important issues facing your district/state, and how do you envision working collaboratively to find solutions that benefit everyone?

Although the district is not yet set, due to upcoming legislative action on the congressional maps, I expect agricultural policy and industrial/jobs growth to remain near the top of the list. I will work on sensible tax, environmental and growth policy which necessarily requires affordable and abundant energy and affordable and reasonable cost of government regulation. Additionally, NC is home to 10 military installations, about a $10BN economic to our state. Nevertheless, the only current veteran member of our congressional delegation is a Democrat who is more interested in DEI than in winning wars and projecting global strength. That will change when I am elected. The economic security of our older and disabled population is another passion of mine. We must work to stabilize these programs for posterity.

Safety is also a paramount issue. The scourge of fentanyl and lax border policies has made every state a border state. I have visited the border and I am familiar with the problems on site. I will be a vote for reclaiming our border from the cartels, for stopping trafficking, and for shutting down the fentanyl trade (including via China trade policy). I will fight to protect police qualified immunity. I will also look at potential federal action to increase the likelihood that prosecutors in the states and jurisdictions will be enforcing the law rather than engaging in social work via non-enforcement. Our crime rates have gotten out of control, as a result of lax and unequal application of the law. Of course, I will be a strong advocate for veterans and social security.

Last, since I must only choose three issues here, is the restoration of the American citizen to his/her (not "their", btw) constitutionally protected position, and reasonable responsibilities. America seems to have lost the concept of citizenship and equal protection under the law. I will be a voice for fairness. This philosophy will extend to everything from energy to education to environment, from policy issues as wide-ranging as national security, ethics, and fiscal conduct.

So, without knowing the final borders of this congressional district, these are things I am confident I can do for the district in D.C. As an aside, I have signed the With Honor Pledge - to work across the aisle with other veteran members on these issues.
