KEY ISSUES
1. Provide the top 2 reasons why you want to run for school board?

1. I want to advocate for the needs and interests of students, teachers, and the community. 2. Additionally, serving on the school board can provide an opportunity to make a positive impact on the educational experiences and outcomes of children in the community.

2. Name the top 2 issues with your current school board or district and how you will address each issue.

1. Providing access to a well-rounded education, which includes disciplines like music, art, and physical education, can improve student achievement and close achievement gaps. Reevaluating what we can provide for our students to meet their academic objectives, whether they are focused on trade school or college. A large number of the trades and arts are disappearing. 2. Resources allocation and budgetary restrictions. Reconsidering our choices for external general support and how this can reduce the high school's costs while simultaneously lowering our taxes.

3. Do you support school choice? Why or why not?

Yes, I do. There are several explanations for this. Increased accountability and better academic performance may result from interschool competition. Instead of being restricted to the neighborhood school that is allocated to them, school choice enables families to select the best educational fit for their children. Families may have access to a larger range of educational options thanks to school choice, including various curriculum, teaching philosophies, and cultural perspectives. Students can obtain a customized education based on their unique needs and interests thanks to school choice.

4. Who do you think is the ultimate authority in a child’s education and wellbeing?

A child's education and wellbeing are currently shared by the parent, the school, and the government, who work together to make sure that every child has the chance to obtain a high-quality education and to grow and thrive in a safe and supportive environment. The parent or legal guardian, however, should have the last say on a child's education and welfare. They are in charge of making choices that will affect their child's education, including selecting a school, keeping tabs on their academic development, and deciding on extracurricular activities and their general well-being.

5. Do you agree with the statement “America is inherently racist”? Why or why not?

Systemic racism has long been a concern in the United States, having an impact on a variety of societal spheres like work, housing, education, and criminal justice.

Due to the country's long history of slavery and racial prejudice, there are still many racial inequities and inequalities today as a result of numerous laws and practices. It is crucial to remember, nevertheless, that through activism, legislation, and social and cultural change, there have been notable attempts and advancements achieved in addressing and combatting racism in America.

6. What are your thoughts on “Comprehensive Sex Education”, “Diversity Equity and Inclusion”, and “Social Emotional Learning”? Should these be a part of our public education curriculum or supplemental learning materials or left to parents to teach and why?

Ultimately, the decision of whether these topics should be part of the public education curriculum, supplemental learning materials, or left to parents to teach is a complex issue that is often influenced by cultural, political, and personal beliefs, therefore with respectful and thoughtful discussions, this should be left to the parents.

7. With declining academic achievement in reading, writing, math, and science in schools across the nation, how would you address these issues if elected?

If elected for a school board, addressing declining academic achievement in reading, writing, math, and science would involve a multifaceted approach that could include the following steps:

Assess the underlying causes: It's critical to recognize and comprehend the elements that are causing the reduction in academic performance. This could entail looking at student performance data, interviewing instructors, students, and parents, or holding focus groups to get their opinions.

Create a thorough strategy: The school board can create a thorough plan to address the fall in academic attainment based on the assessment's results. Initiatives to improve curriculum and instructional materials, support for teachers, and the availability of more tools to help students learn could all fall under this category.

Invest in infrastructure and technology: It can be difficult for schools to keep up with technological changes, which can affect students' learning. To help pupils stay up with the quickly evolving state of education, the school board should think about making investments in technology infrastructure and digital learning tools.

Put a focus on student-centered learning: This method of teaching gives students' needs, interests, and skills first priority and can contribute to the creation of a more stimulating and productive learning environment. The school board might think about creating policies and plans that support project-based learning, individualized instruction, and practical experiences.

Engage stakeholders: A wide range of stakeholders, such as teachers, students, parents, and community members, must work together and contribute to the solution to the problem of diminishing academic success. The school board ought to interact with these organizations to collect input and suggestions, get support for its plans, and make sure that everyone is pulling in the same direction.

The school board should regularly analyze the status of its efforts and make necessary adjustments to make sure they are having the desired effects. Regular reporting to the community on the progress of the projects, teacher and student surveys, and evaluations of student performance could all fall under this category.

In summary, addressing declining academic achievement in reading, writing, math, and science requires a comprehensive and collaborative approach that involves assessing the root causes, developing a comprehensive plan, investing in technology and infrastructure, emphasizing student-centered learning, engaging with stakeholders, and continuously monitoring progress.

8. Safety is a major concern for most families, how would you support and encourage safety measures for girls in their private spaces, if elected?

As a school board member, supporting and encouraging safety measures for girls in their private space could involve the following steps:

Creating explicit policies: The school board can create policies that clearly define the steps that will be taken to protect girls' privacy and safety in the classroom. Parents, teachers, students, and other stakeholders should all receive a clear explanation of these policies.

Education and training: Teaching students, instructors, and staff about the value of privacy and safety can contribute to the development of a respectful and conscientious culture. Workshops, seminars, and training sessions on subjects like bullying, harassment, and healthy relationships can fall under this category.

Installing physical privacy measures can help to ensure that girls have a secure location to change and use the restroom. These features include bathroom locks and private changing facilities.

Monitoring the school setting: Regularly keeping an eye on the school setting, especially the restrooms and locker rooms, can help to spot and solve any possible safety issues. Regular inspections and the usage of security cameras may be necessary for this.

Encourage reporting: Fostering a climate of trust and open communication can be achieved by encouraging students and staff to report any safety concerns or events. This may entail creating channels for anonymous reporting and offering assistance to people who come forward.

Working with law enforcement: Establishing solid relationships with neighborhood law enforcement organizations can help to guarantee that the school is ready to handle any potential issues. This could entail having a defined protocol in place for handling emergencies, as well as frequent training and drills.

The development of clear policies, the provision of education and training, the installation of privacy measures, the observation of the school environment, the encouragement of reporting, and cooperation with law enforcement are all necessary for supporting and encouraging safety measures for girls in their private space.
