KEY ISSUES | |
1. Provide the top 2 reasons why you want to run for school board? | Our school board currently does not represent the community it serves. Board members are selected through a highly partisan third-party caucus (established in the 1950s) and follow a leftist party line agenda. Our community deserves better representation and should pick its candidates without the influence of a third-party caucus. The pandemic really exposed a lot of corruption within our public schools. From unconstitutional masking/vaccine requirements for students to teacher union control over curriculum to federal funding incentives for schools who follow partisan politics. We need a big change. We need to focus on academics, parental rights and involvement in education and putting our students best interests first. |
2. Name the top 2 issues with your current school board or district and how you will address each issue. | Our current school board doesn't value the input of all of its constituents. They are highly biased and do not address the concerns of parents when confronted with issues pertaining to curriculum, sex education and governmental overreach. They hide behind school lawyers and dismiss parents concerns outrightly. This is a big issue and I would like to make the work of the school board more transparent for stakeholders (parents of kids in school). Related to this is the issue of actually representing the community and not the agenda of unions or government. Our school board/district is pushing along the transgender narrative by recently installing feminine hygiene dispenses in boys bathrooms. When confronted as to why they did this they simply respond that they are following the law. The state of Illinois has recently passed legislation to make extreme comprehensive sex education mandatory from the youngest grade of kindergarten all the way through high school. Our school board doesn't push back against these policies and use their influence as a local form of government but instead acquiesces to every whim of the State and refuses to stand up for the students. This is not the role of the school board to simply follow every leftist agenda that comes along. They are being lazy in their position and it is negatively affecting our student population. I will push back on these policies and use my position as a lesser magistrate to put checks and balances on the State and Union power over our children's education. |
3. Do you support school choice? Why or why not? | Yes, I do support school choice. It is a misnomer to claim that school choice will take away from public education. In a free market you need competition to bring about the best of anything. If a school district is performing poorly or not being responsible to their community then those students should not be subjected to a failing system. If they could choose a better school then I think they should have the ability to do so. This will raise the bar for the failing schools and help our students to succeed. |
4. Who do you think is the ultimate authority in a child’s education and wellbeing? | Parents. Hands down. I drafted a document with an attorney this past summer that outlines our federal and state rights as parents in the education of our children. I put this document in my childs file at school to notify the school that I know the role of the parents in the education and wellbeing of my child. I've helped a dozen other parents do the same. MFA has a great series that I attended over the summer via Zoom on parental rights in education as well. If I have learned anything over the past three years is that parents not only have rights in their children's education but they MUST take an active role in their child's education - volunteer in the school, attend board meetings, meet with teachers, show up randomly and audit classes. Making their presence known in the school is the best way to turn this failing education ship around in the correct direction. |
5. Do you agree with the statement “America is inherently racist”? Why or why not? | I categorically reject the statement that "America is inherently racist". This couldn't be farther from the truth. Despite the dark time of slavery in our country, America fought a civil war to end slavery and declare all people equal. This is a testament to our Judea-Christian foundations and desire to have a new and better form of governance. |
6. What are your thoughts on “Comprehensive Sex Education”, “Diversity Equity and Inclusion”, and “Social Emotional Learning”? Should these be a part of our public education curriculum or supplemental learning materials or left to parents to teach and why? | Every time we try to solve moral problems with governmental solutions we end up with something worse. This is the case with "systemic racism". Trying to solve this problem with government has created a whole mess of diversity, equity and inclusion that is exactly the opposite of itself. DEI has no place in our education as it is based in racist philosophy. Another example of the government trying to solve moral issues is with social emotional learning. Many of the SEL curriculums are created out of social justice efforts. We do not need our children to become social justice warriors. We need them to know how to read, write and solve math problems. Our government has no business teaching children about comprehensive sex education which is a perverse effort to indoctrinate children with transgender ideology. |
7. With declining academic achievement in reading, writing, math, and science in schools across the nation, how would you address these issues if elected? | Recently, I spoke with a former Illinois state representative and wondered how I could be the change as a single voice on an entirely liberal school board. Her response was very encouraging which is that if I am elected I can demand the answers to questions about our curriculum that ordinary parents can't get access to. This is how I would address these issues. I am a "pull the bandaid" off kind of person - look at the wound and fix it. I will dig into the issues and figure out where the problem is and work to fix it. If it is bad curriculum then we will change it, if it is bad educators then we will change them, if it is bad policy then we will change it. And I want to educate the community so that they know what the Board is voting on. Community input will greatly affect how the school performs. |
8. Safety is a major concern for most families, how would you support and encourage safety measures for girls in their private spaces, if elected? | I will not vote for policies that emasculate boys of their boyhood nor erase girls femininity. Boys are boys. Girls are girls. This is not complicated. I will not tolerate tampons in boys bathrooms or boys having access to girls bathrooms and vice versa. This is simply not acceptable. If there is a child that suffers from gender dysphoria, which is a clinical mental disorder, then we will seek to provide that student with access to a single bathroom perhaps in the nurses office but we will not uproot all children's identifies for the sake of one student who needs special help. |
9. Do you believe Title IX is in jeopardy in our public education system today? | Yes. The leftist agenda that the unions and government are trying to push forward is aiming to make boys and girls the same. Boys and girls are not the same. They each have strengths and weaknesses that should be addressed appropriately. My daughter, 9, plays hockey and next year we want her to be on an all girls team so that she plays games against all girls because we see that even at this young age boys and girls play hockey differently. Boys are stronger and faster and hit harder. Girls are more strategic and less physical. We need to protect Title IX. |
