KEY ISSUES
1. Provide the top 2 reasons why you want to run for school board?

The combination of being a proven business leader coupled with the work that I have done in the community, both leading a charity that assists inmates and also as a member of the Redwood City Police Advisory Committee provides me with a unique perspective and skill set that I would like to apply to helping our next generation of students succeed in this ever-changing and complex world.

2. Name the top 2 issues with your current school board or district and how you will address each issue.

There are many issues facing our school district, which collectively is contributing a 'trust-divide' between the district and parents:
• Ongoing debate over de-tracking
• School safety & student mental health
• Curriculum consistency across the district
• Earning and maintaining parent trust
• Declining enrollment and graduation rate disparity

3. Do you support school choice? Why or why not?

I am supportive. Competition is a good thing. But it must to done from the lens of lifting up the students and providing a better path.

4. Who do you think is the ultimate authority in a child’s education and wellbeing?

Parents!

5. Do you agree with the statement “America is inherently racist”? Why or why not?

As with every nation, our nation’s history is complex. The intention of high school ethnic studies would seem to support that premise as one cannot excuse history, but one cannot erase it either. What we can do, is learn from history and apply those learnings in our aspiration “to create a more perfect union.” This binary approach to ethnic studies lifting up some in favor of others is not what we should be teaching our children. Instead, we should be lifting up everyone and creating common awareness for all ethnicities and cultures. It is imperative we take the time to properly align intent with implementation as it will inform current and future generations. We must have a productive debate that shapes a curriculum that can sustain the test of time. A curriculum based on indoctrination and intellectual intimidation will not accomplish that. Please see link to an OpEd I published in in 2023.

6. What are your thoughts on “Comprehensive Sex Education”, “Diversity Equity and Inclusion”, and “Social Emotional Learning”? Should these be a part of our public education curriculum or supplemental learning materials or left to parents to teach and why?

I believe these are parental responsibilities and obligations; especially when it comes to sex education and social emotional learning. Every child progresses at a different pace and the parent is the one who is best equipped to determine when and how to introduce these sensitive topics to our children. Unfortunately, DE&I curriculum has been hijacked and we have missed the opportunity to expose children to the wide-range of cultural norms versus using this as an opportunity to shame, blame and create a racial divide.

7. With declining academic achievement in reading, writing, math, and science in schools across the nation, how would you address these issues if elected?

I would work to strengthen our curriculum in these area, while also working to ensure that we widening our offerings in the technology, bio-tech and sustainability; complimented by real-world business skills such as: critical or strategic thinking, financial management, communication, leadership and team management; no one should feel pressured to attend 4-year College. For example, Intuit for Education utilizes real-world tools such as Turbo Tax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and MailChimp to give students the ability to apply what they have learned to real-life scenarios such a building a budget, filing taxes, paying for college or starting a small business, these are real-life survival skills that our students must be prepared for.

8. Safety is a major concern for most families, how would you support and encourage safety measures for girls in their private spaces, if elected?

Girls locker rooms and bath rooms must be for girls only! I will work to protect the right of girls and young women to compete in sports and maintain their private spaces from anyone who is not a biological girl or woman.

9. Do you believe Title IX is in jeopardy in our public education system today?

Yes I do and actually wrote a guest OpEd on that topic. https://www.smdailyjournal.com/opinion/guest_perspectives/the-end-of-girls-and-women-s-sports/article_e01d6580-0f31-11ee-9003-3fc749e245ef.html

10. Do you have any other endorsements? If so, please list them.
