KEY ISSUES | |
1. Provide the top 2 reasons why you want to run for school board? | I would like to run for school board for the following reasons... |
2. Name the top 2 issues with your current school board or district and how you will address each issue. | School Safety: |
3. Do you support school choice? Why or why not? | Yes, I support school choice. I believe that parents should always have a choice in the education environment for the child(ren). I firmly believe that there are various options for students based off need, skill set, and ability. I believe parents should ultimately decide their child's education and alternative placement if they want to. |
4. Who do you think is the ultimate authority in a child’s education and wellbeing? | I believe that parents/care givers are the ultimate authority in a child's education and well-being. I believe that as the ultimate authority parents and care givers play an integral part in the foundation of a child. |
5. Do you agree with the statement “America is inherently racist”? Why or why not? | No, I do not believe that America is inherently racist. I believe that individuals are taught to be racist. I believe that there are more people who have made a conscious decision to not be racist and have seen the effect of racism in our society. |
6. What are your thoughts on “Comprehensive Sex Education”, “Diversity Equity and Inclusion”, and “Social Emotional Learning”? Should these be a part of our public education curriculum or supplemental learning materials or left to parents to teach and why? | I believe that comprehensive sex education, diversity equity and inclusion along with social emotional learning should all be taught at a very basic overview like level in schools. I believe that each subject matters helps to educate and inform the whole child. It's my belief that teaching these things at school allows for the conversation to be cultivated and continued at home by families/parents. |
7. With declining academic achievement in reading, writing, math, and science in schools across the nation, how would you address these issues if elected? | I would support more learning opportunities for students that would help to identify needs and address them in small class sizes in a specific way to help reinforce lessons. Providing families with resources would also help to address this achievement gap and serve as support systems for students. |
8. Safety is a major concern for most families, how would you support and encourage safety measures for girls in their private spaces, if elected? | I would bring awareness and education opportunities for all students without regards to gender identification. I would support providing lessons about safety in health classes and guidance classes. |
9. Do you believe Title IX is in jeopardy in our public education system today? | No I do not believe so. If anything I believe that the education amendment of 1972 has a greater need in our society considering all the laws around prohibiting unlawful discrimination. |
10. Do you have any other endorsements? If so, please list them. | Yes I have one at this time. I have an endorsement from Shelly Abraham Candidate for Congress. |
