KEY ISSUES
1. Provide the top 2 reasons why you want to run for school board?

My Granddaughters are the primary reason I ran in 2020 and that hasn't changed for this election cycle. Next, All kids deserve to have a safe and effective education and not all school board members are willing to stand in the gap between administration and the students.

2. Name the top 2 issues with your current school board or district and how you will address each issue.

The first issue we are dealing with as a school district is still student discipline due to the fallout of Covid with the second being student literacy.
As a school board member we are the final arbiter of discipline within the district. Over the last year and a half, we have had numerous appeals for long term suspension decisions. We have only mitigated one of those and upheld the rest. Teachers and staff must feel supported in the decisions they make and upholding a disciplinary decision is crucial to ensuring a positive educational culture.
As for literacy, I have and will always be a strong proponent for reading. This however doesn't mean putting garbage into children's hands and minds. I started an unwritten policy last year to read all of the books which come out of our sites literature review committees. This allows me to make stronger and more informed decisions on approving books for use in a curriculum setting and bolsters my votes against books which do not need to be taught from the front of the room.

3. Do you support school choice? Why or why not?

Yes, I have been a vocal advocate for school choice for many years and use the dais to promote it every opportunity I get. Not everyone drives a Prius nor a pickup truck and the same could be said for schools. Educational choice is one of the best things we can do for parents and children since not everyone learns the same.

4. Who do you think is the ultimate authority in a child’s education and wellbeing?

Parents!! From Biblical times to the present this is still applicable today. Governments, to include school boards, do not get to interfere with the rights of parents.

5. Do you agree with the statement “America is inherently racist”? Why or why not?

I no more agree with this statement than I agree with the assertion that the moon is made of green cheese. I am a Constitution Coach with the Patriot Academy and a military veteran with over 20 years of serving the most exceptional nation to ever grace the face of the earth. America has done more than almost any other country to end racism and that education needs to be taught not revised.

6. What are your thoughts on “Comprehensive Sex Education”, “Diversity Equity and Inclusion”, and “Social Emotional Learning”? Should these be a part of our public education curriculum or supplemental learning materials or left to parents to teach and why?

Comprehensive Sex Education has no place in public schools, public education curriculum and the people who promote this should be incarcerated. Sex education as a whole should be taught by the parents and if that is not possible, it should follow Arizona's lead in that it should be medically and scientifically accurate.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the way they are currently being promoted are also not applicable for use in public education due to their divisive nature. Martin Luther King Jr. said it succinctly when he stated "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character".
Lastly with Social Emotional Learning it can be used as a supplemental learning material as long as it is in direct coordination with parents and caregivers. Some of the SEL programs out there are divisive and do not have a place in public education where as others like faith based programs can be used in concert with parents.

7. With declining academic achievement in reading, writing, math, and science in schools across the nation, how would you address these issues if elected?

Our district currently exceeds state standards and test scores. I have and will continue to work with district administration and staff to continue increasing these scores.

8. Safety is a major concern for most families, how would you support and encourage safety measures for girls in their private spaces, if elected?

I agree, As a board, the policies of the district are set at the local level and I will not vote for any policy that endangers or jeopardizes the privacy our girls are entitled to. Additionally, as a proud and protective grandfather of 4 granddaughters of which 2 live very close, I will always advocate for their safety and protection at the local, state, and national level.

9. Do you believe Title IX is in jeopardy in our public education system today?

Yes, The current administration is seeking to destroy any and all protections our girls have. We must with all of the power we have protect and advocate for them and seek to strengthen the protections they have. If we lose the battle at the federal level, then we must find a way to do without federal money to cut the strings they have into the districts.
