KEY ISSUES | |
1. Provide the top 2 reason why you want to run for office. | I lost my son in a hit-and-run accident. This made me realize there was a loophole in the Kansas law that allowed for someone to receive a less severe penalty if they fled the scene of an accident they caused while DUI than if they stayed. I did not want another Kansas family to be wronged by this loophole, so I went to Topeka and passed Levi’s law correcting that. My work in the statehouse to pass this law is what inspired me to run, I want to keep fighting for family first values. |
2. Name the top 2 issues in your county, state, or federal district that you wish to address and how? | I believe the number one issue affecting the people of Sedgwick County is the increased cost of living and taxes. Property taxes are taxing seniors and those on fixed incomes out of the homes they’ve lived in for decades. I want to lower the mill levy and potentially address property tax appraisal reform. Kansas must get to work on real property tax relief. I believe the second most pressing issue is public safety. Crime continues to rise in Wichita, and I want to ensure that those committing crimes are held accountable. |
3. Do you support defunding the police? | I do not support defunding the police. Law enforcement works tirelessly in Wichita, rarely being able to take a lunch break. They risk their lives every day for not much money. They do it out of the good of their heart which is why I’m committed to providing them every resource possible. |
4. What are your thoughts on “Diversity Equity and Inclusion”? Should this be implemented as training for county/city/federal employees? Why or why not? | I do not support the use of DEI, especially in taxpayer-funded institutions. I think as a community we should focus on what makes us similar, not what makes us different. If all we do is focus on our differences and teach that certain demographics have advantages and disadvantages in life no matter what they do, we will only become more divided. |
5. With growing pressure to accommodate various lifestyles/identities how would you manage to keep your city/town safe and family friendly? | In my opinion, young families or young couples thinking of starting a family are looking for three things: safety, affordable cost of living, and education. I want Wichita to provide all three of those items to ensure we can be an exceptional place to live and raise a family. |
6. Do you think involving residents in decision making in your city/town is important? Why or not? | I do think involving residents in decision-making with public policy is important. More than that, I think it’s mandatory. As an elected official, I will answer to the people I represent and nobody else. I will always listen to the will of my constituents and be available for them if they have questions about what is happening in Topeka. |
7. If you received a $1 million grant to use for the city/town/county any way you wanted, what would you do with it and why? | If I received a one million dollar grant for the State to use I would put that money in the rainy day fund to ensure long-term financial security. Alternatively, I would potentially want to put the money into education to ensure more educational freedom for our students and parents. |
8. What is your opinion on sanctuary cities/autonomous zones within your city/town? | I do not support sanctuary cities. Thankfully Wichita has not headed in that direction, and I would work tirelessly to stop it if the city did. |
9. What are your thoughts on mandating the closure of privately owned businesses due to public health concerns aside from code violations? | Private businesses are just that, private. I will always fight to ensure they are afforded the constitutional rights they deserve and keep the government from implementing rules and regulations on businesses unfairly. I thought the government way overstepped its role during the covid 19 pandemic. The government chose winners and losers regarding who could stay open and who couldn’t. Many businesses that shut their doors during Covid were never able to open them again and that is wrong. |
10. Who is the ultimate authority over the health and safety of the people in your city/town? | The ultimate authority over public health and safety in Wichita would be the Sedgwick County Health Department. However, I believe that the government should always respect constitutional rights even though they often didn’t during the Covid 19 pandemic. A lot of times, individuals are best served to decide what’s best for their health and I think that government should always respect that possibility. |
11. Are you endorsed by other organizations? If so, which ones? | I am endorsed by the Wichita Chamber of Commerce, Kansans for Life PAC, NRA PVF, the Kansas Chamber of Commerce and the Kansas Chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business. |
12. Do you support making laws to protect life keeping in mind there are many views on what this means? | Yes |
